Randall’s Island Fall Migration

Transportation: Public Transportation – Participants can use public transportation to arrive at the meeting location.
Meeting Point: Our meeting location will be provided after registration.
Schedule: The walk starts at 7 am, and we will go for 2-4 hours max, depending on the bird activity.
Relative Difficulty: Two miles of relatively flat ground.

Trip Description: This will be an early morning visit to Randall’s Island, with the potential to see active morning migration, fall migrants, and lingering breeding birds. We will be a small group and try to do some quiet ear birding to hear better birds passing by overhead or hiding in nearby bushes. The trip will last two to four hours.

Important Note: The number of housed and unhoused people on the island has increased. In particular, pedestrians accessing the park from the 103rd Street Bridge will likely encounter a tent city. We recommend that everyone bird in groups, stay alert to your surroundings at all times, and only sign up for the trip if you feel comfortable.

Registration: Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, September 16. After that time, click here to register. Registration closes at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 25. Members (and those who have applied for membership) will be prioritized over non-members.
